What’s happening in December?

Bring your friends and family, and enjoy December and January with a selection of our favourite things to do in the run up to the big day. There’s so much to unwrap long past when the last of the turkey has been eaten.

Wrap up in plenty of warm winter layers to cheer the brave souls taking part in a very icy dip at The Serpentine Lido, W2. Every Christmas Day, outdoor swimmers battle to see who’s fastest in The Peter Pan Cup. Named after the novelist J.M. Barrie, who donated the first Peter Pan Cup in 1904 – the same year his play Peter Pen debuted on the London stage. This race has taken place on Christmas Day ever since.

Running until the 1st Jan, the gardens and grounds of Chiswick House will be illuminated once again with incredible colour and sculptures, larger than life lanterns at The Magic Lantern Festival, Chiswick House, W4.

Skate the Moat at the Tower of London, or get your skates on to Somerset House, as each of these iconic London settings will be transformed into ice rinks until early January. Perfect for little ones or the young at heart, Saatchi Gallery is staging the ultimate LEGO adventure with BRICKLIVE (until 7th January). Or take your loved ones to Skylon Presents Night Sky, for dinner beneath the cosmos, you can stargaze until 31st January.
