Back in 1986, two architects in Hong Kong were “brought together by a passion for good design,” and Richards Basmajian was born. Since then its two principal architects, David Richards and Peter Basmajian, have been joined by Bernice Leung and David Wong, although the name – and ethos - remains the same to this day.

Now more than 70 people work in their Hong Kong studio and the practice’s award-winning designs aren’t limited to the Pacific Rim, their work is visible throughout the globe.

As interior architects, they’re known for their residential clubhouse work in particular, designing some of the world’s most beautiful residents’ clubs, inspired by the world’s best five-star hotels.

Starting with the Ground Floor lobby, Richards Basmajian designed space for the 24-hour concierge and used this to set the tone as the main reception point for the whole of Lillie Square. As well as apartment entrances for One Lillie Square - the architectural focal point of the development – there’s a Garden Café leading to an outdoor landscaped terrace and grand staircase that follows down into the main clubhouse areas lit with a triple height atrium.

At lower Clubhouse level, the architects worked their magic over 18,000 sq ft of fitness and recreational areas. Designing extensive health and wellbeing facilities a state of the art gym and spa destination includes a 20-metre swimming pool alongside sauna, steam room and treatment rooms. Their plans needed to fit in all of the Clubhouse’s leisure and entertaining facilities and create a place for residents to feel like it was a natural extension of their daily lives. So, naturally they included a cinema screening room, coffee bar, space for private dining - and even climate-controlled wine storage.
